Plenty of things are important in my life. Chief among them is the state of my hair.

On Writing Without Saying Anything

I love to write. I’ve always dreamed of writing at Vogue (which will never happen) or recently at Vulture (which is at least in the realm of human possibility, Vogue being reserved for the types of perfection one has to assume is distinctly not human).  Plus, at Vulture you can write about everything worth writing about- love, mistakes, the eternally weird concept of adulthood, without ever writing about yourself. Instead writing about all who chose to entertain us. And I guess herein lies my difficulty with writing.

How do I write about what I really want to write about it without letting everyone else know what it is I want to write about? Or, how do I tell you all about my relationship without breaking his trust? Or, how do I gossip about all the silly (but worth it) mistakes I’ve made with boys who have girlfriends, or boys who are just generally…mistakes, without getting in trouble? How did Carrie possibly get away with it?

Well, I don’t know how. And I’m not going to tell you this blog is where I learn, because that’s stupid. But here is where I’ll try not to care- or more accurately, where I’ll obsess over every word to make sure I don’t let you know exactly what it is I’m trying to say.

While you’re here, let me tell you everything I choose to tell you about myself.  I live in DC, for now, and I work in politics. I haven’t yet graduated from college, because I was busy electing Barack Obama twice, thank you very much. I’m becoming a mom this June, to a baby girl golden retriever, born April 23rd. I love and am loved by wonderful friends and family and work every day to love life, even when it’s hard (good LORD that sounds cheesy out loud).

And I am SO weird about my hair. You think you know people who are weird about their hair, but you are wrong. I don’t care how much you judge me, I will spend as long as I damn well please obsessing over it.

So, dear reader, welcome to my blog, which serves primarily as a writing practice land for me. You’re welcome to read along.

By the way, today my hair is in a low ponytail. The bounce is nice, but it’s in a ponytail so I pretty much hate it.
